Fit Files no. 5

Dear Internet, I tried Barre class and it royally kicked my butt. For those who don’t know, well, it is ballet-yoga-Pilates on steroids. Not only was I late to the class but was also completely oblivious to the fact that the two hour trial was actually two classes in one. Not one class then socializing about what muscles we just awakened. Two different classes of basically ballet on steroids, I was sore for two days.

The first set was with a portable bar and second was set up with actual bars like in a dance studio. I didn’t know what I was doing, there was a lot of me going out of breath and sweating like it was going out of style. This workout works all your muscles, you don't feel it until you wake up the next day kind of like a bad hangover.

I was so out of breath that I had to leave the class half way in, just to catch my breath. The second class, started on a yoga mat with very light weights and a half inflated ball. It felt like a combination of ballet and strength training (the kind using your own body weight). After about 10 minutes of stretching and doing yoga-like movements, we moved on to the barre. The hardest part, the only support is that of the barre as you old on to it while lifting your legs up and down for 2-4 reps of 20. The struggle was real. While it works just about every muscle in your body, it would take a lot of courage for me to make it back to that class. It is more for someone who has more recent dance experience and does not mind being sore for a couple of days when they start this.

In other workout related news, the gym has not seen me since last week and I am still looking to try a boxing class.
